Wild Reading® Level 2 builds on early reading skills to help children become confident, proficient readers through a blend of nature-based learning, multisensory activities, and explicit, sequential phonics instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. Developed through years of classroom experience, doctoral research in literacy and curriculum design, and the science of how children learn to read, it offers parents a clear, practical path for supporting their child’s growing literacy skills.
In Level 2, children progress from reading short vowel words to mastering long vowels, vowel teams, R-controlled vowels, and two-syllable words. Skills are introduced in a logical sequence and practiced at the word, sentence, and passage level using engaging activities, The Wild Reader decodable story collection, and fluency word cards.
Comprehension is strengthened through quality read-alouds, discussion, and activities that build background knowledge and explore key strategies like summarizing, making connections, and inferencing. Weekly, nature-inspired writing and enrichment activities keep learning creative and hands-on, while built-in flexibility allows families to adapt lessons for indoor or outdoor settings.
