Wild Math Curriculum: First Grade

$35.00

Wild Math® First Grade transforms math into an active, hands-on adventure, taking learning outdoors where concepts come to life. Students build foundational skills through playful exploration in nature: using pinecones, rocks, or seashells for addition and subtraction fact practice, bundling sticks to understand place value, rolling lawn dice on the grass, jumping across a giant 100 chart, and experimenting with containers in the mud kitchen to explore volume and capacity. Learning outside engages the senses, makes abstract concepts concrete, and helps sustain attention and focus.

The curriculum is organized into units that cover all the topics typically taught in first grade math, with activity ideas for learning and practicing each skill outdoors. Strategies for mastering addition and subtraction facts are taught to build fluency in this crucial first-grade skill. Each unit also includes a list of recommended math books and games, perfect for warm days outside or cozy indoor learning during cold or rainy weather.

A full year (40 weeks) of suggested plans, a pacing guide, and a blank planning sheet are included to guide instruction while allowing flexibility. Teaching tips throughout the curriculum help educators and families confidently support student learning without relying on repetitive workbooks or expensive, rigid programs.
